The 22LR is a good self defense round …

I wish everyone would stop going along with the ‘established’ opinion that the 22LR is not a good self defense round, and that the only people who would even consider it are wimps.

Even centerfire handgun rounds are not stoppers. No pistol cartridge is. Every pistol cartridge requires that you hit the bad guy multiple times to get him to bleed out. It’s easier to get multiple hits with a 22LR.

Not everyone can control a centerfire to make those hits. Recoil is real and it takes practice to overcome it. Many will not practice at all. Many are not into guns like you are.

Many people have been corralled by public opinion and the ‘experts’ into using a .380, or a 9mm. It is no concern to the ‘experts’ that centerfires are not a good fit for some people.

Not everyone who shoots will practice to the point where centerfire recoil doesn’t bother them. Some will never practice at all. We have to accept that.

If you have taken someone who had never shot a gun to the range and you had them try a 9mm and a 22LR, which one did they do better with? How about you? You’ve fired many thousands of rounds, which one do you do better with?

How many people: wives, girl friends, newbies have you taken to the range and totally intimidated them by insisting they try your new BEST GUN EVER 9mm? They’ve watched you proficiently manipulate the slide, safety, magazine, and trigger … and you hit the bullseye every time. It’s so easy. Anyone can do it and everyone should want to, right?

Were you surprised when the next time you wanted to go to the range, the response was, “You go. I have other things to do.” She’s never going with you again. Not willingly anyway. No enthusiasm. She’s not into it. She will never practice. … You did that. If you think a pump shotgun solves the SD problem you’re not paying attention.

If your buy your old mother, whose neighborhood is experiencing break-ins, a center fire semi-auto, do you think she will ever become proficient with it?

Do you shame anyone for even thinking about using a 22LR for SD? Do you argue against it?

How many people have you disarmed with your attitude?
