In 1995, then-U.S. Attorney Eric Holder announced a public campaign …

to “really brainwash people into thinking about guns in a vastly different way,” to stigmatize them.

The relentless anti-gun conditioning has worked. Even staunch 2nd Amendment supporters ‘can’t imagine’ a good reason to carry a long gun. When asked why, they will give the anti-gun position.

Many who carry concealed guns react negatively to open carry. Not because they think it’s wrong, but out of fear of more restrictions. Their fear-based cooperation with the stigmatization of guns does not advance gun rights.

But there are people of courage who press ahead. Support them.

As people become accustomed to seeing guns carried peacefully, the stigma and scariness will fade.

One fearful gun owner wrote about open carry, “when people act without thinking, or without consideration for others – especially when it comes to firearms …”

That also applies to people reacting to the presense of a firearm. They have been conditioned to fear it. They must be taught to evaluate the situation before screaming in fear. We see armed cops all the time. We accept it. A peaceful, armed civilian should be no different.

Years ago I took my 30-yo Scottish step-daughter to Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. She saw a handsome ‘Bobby’ in shorts on a bike going by and whistled. He turned. She saw his gun and freaked. Her reaction is exactly what Holder and all the antis want. No thinking. Just fear. It’s that kind of conditioning we have to reverse.

It’s going to take time. Do not be frozen in fear. Have courage. Anticipate winning. We have The Constitution on our side.

Carry on.

The 2nd Amendment is not a radical cause.

It is the Law Of The Land. It SHALL NOT be infringed.
